Unraveling the Psychology of Fake News

Cognitive psychology research that exposes how misinformation shapes minds and society

About

As a PhD candidate in cognitive psychology, my research focuses on understanding how misinformation spreads and why people believe fake news. Through rigorous laboratory studies and field experiments, I investigate the cognitive mechanisms underlying belief formation and information processing.

My work combines behavioral experiments with neuroimaging techniques to reveal how our brains distinguish truth from falsehood. This research has been featured in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

Beyond the lab, I'm passionate about translating scientific findings into practical solutions for media literacy and fact-checking initiatives that empower individuals to navigate our complex information landscape.

Research

Cognitive Processing of Misinformation

Investigating how the brain processes and stores false information compared to true statements. Using fMRI and EEG techniques to map neural pathways involved in belief formation and revision.

  • Neural correlates of fact-checking behavior
  • Memory consolidation of fake vs. real news
  • Attentional biases in information processing

Social Media Influence Patterns

Analyzing how social network structures affect the spread of misinformation. Examining the role of echo chambers and algorithmic amplification in belief polarization.

  • Viral content propagation mechanisms
  • Influence of social proof on belief formation
  • Platform design impact on misinformation sharing
